Georgia Grey’s Lyme Hack:

“Hi there, my name is Georgia Gray, and I am the founder of the holistic nutrition practice, WBH Nutrition Co. out of Denver, Colorado. Today, I want to share with you some of my Lyme hacks for navigating chronic Lyme disease. First and foremost, just want to thank Matt and Rich for having me on the Tick Boot Camp Podcast and hopefully, you guys got some helpful information out of my episode where I shared my journey with Lyme disease. So, given I do holistic nutrition, obviously, taking care of our physical body through food is super important and needed. However, what I find with my clients who are struggling with Lyme disease, the next step in healing can really come from these mindset shifts and mindset changes. Because you know, we can eat all the kale that we want. But if we’re not taking care of ourselves and loving ourselves and using Lyme as this invitation to slow down, then we’re really never going to heal. So the hack that I wanted to share with you today is finding balance in your life. And I think this relates to nutrition. And I think it can also just play such a role in our healing. So what I mean by that is, let’s first start with just the disease itself and feeling sick. We need to find balance, where if we’re having symptoms and not feeling well, we need to acknowledge that and notice what’s happening in our bodies. But we don’t need to go down the rabbit hole of I’m never going to get better and I’m a victim of this. But then we can’t also go too far on the other end of the spectrum where we are in denial. So that first piece of balance is with the actual disease, where I encourage you to acknowledge if symptoms arise that they are part of your journey, but then don’t go down that rabbit hole and find that balance in the middle. I think the same thing goes for food. We need to be eating those leafy greens, quality proteins, and organic when possible. You know, reducing inflammation, but when we get so restrictive and obsessive, I find it can backfire. And then if we go the other direction of screw it, I’m going to go through the drive-through and eat when I want, that also backfires. So I am encouraging you to find that balance in your life where you’re eating healthy the majority of the time, but if you have something that’s outside of a protocol, you’re going to be okay. And just give yourself that grace in the process too. I would also encourage, I think the same thing, with rest and exercise where we can’t push it too hard. But also allow yourself to move at times. And the same thing with rest, you know, give yourself permission to rest when you need it. That’s so key when your body is fighting off Lyme. And then lastly, when it comes to finding balance with Lyme disease, I want you to remember that you aren’t your disease. This isn’t your Lyme, it’s something just in your body and it’s not you and it’s not a part of you. So again, trying to find that balance of detaching from the disease, it doesn’t own you and it’s not who you are. And it can be something that is a teacher for you and something that opens you up to learning how to love yourself and slow down, but you are not defined by the disease. And most importantly remember that no matter where you are in your Lyme journey, have hope, and don’t give up. You can and you will get better. You’re not alone. And just don’t stop the fight.”
